Curated tips
Lagom Tips para Valle de Bravo
Layer up: Valle's weather is incredibly deceptive. The sun burns by day, but as soon as it dips, the forest temperature drops dramatically. Pack vests or light jackets always, even in spring.
Restaurant reservations: During peak season, the top spots fill up. Book your dinners at least 4 days ahead, especially for groups of four or more.
The bread secret spot: Don't leave without stopping at Hotel Rodavento's bakery or the one in town for artisan bread. It's the best edible souvenir of the trip.
Fun fact

Valle de Bravo is named after Nicolás Bravo, a hero of Mexican Independence, but its original name was San Francisco del Valle de Temascaltepec. The lake we see today was created artificially in 1947 as part of a hydroelectric system, forever transforming the mountain landscape into a high-altitude harbor.

Checklist
What to pack
0 / 8
🚗Own car (SUV)

From Mexico City, the fastest route is via the Toluca-Zitácuaro Expressway (Valle de Bravo branch). During peak season, leave before 7:00 AM to avoid the Santa Fe and Toluca traffic knot.

🗺️Getting around locally

The most Lagom option is bringing your own SUV. Valle and Avándaro streets are cobbled and steep — a high-clearance vehicle avoids complications and gives you freedom to reach the waterfalls.

🗺️Traffic strategy

During peak season, avoid moving the car between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM in central Valle. Uber is scarce — prioritize walking or using the identifiable local taxis.
