Curated tips
Lagom Tips para Puerto Vallarta
Book ahead: During peak season, restaurants with a view (like Le Kliff or The Iguana) fill up months in advance. Leave nothing to chance if you want that specific table facing the sea.
The Vallarta look: The climate is humid and warm. Opt for linen and light cottons. For elegant dinners, a midi dress or linen guayabera is the standard for relaxed coastal luxury.
Avoid the malecon at midday: During peak dates, the boardwalk is packed with tourists. Walk it very early in the morning or late at night — that's when you truly appreciate the sculptures and architecture without the noise.
Fun fact

Puerto Vallarta rose to global fame in 1963 during the filming of The Night of the Iguana. What is now a luxury destination was then a small fishing village accessible only by sea. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor put Vallarta on the map, and their romantic legacy remains the soul of the Romantic Zone.

Checklist
What to pack
0 / 8
✈️Flight

Arrival at Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR).

🚐Airport transfer

During peak season, the airport is chaotic. Book a private transfer to be met at arrivals. Uber works well in the city, but to leave the airport you'll need to cross the pedestrian bridge to the federal zone.

🗺️Getting around locally

If staying in the Romantic Zone or Centro, walking is best. For the South Zone or Marina Vallarta, Uber is fastest and safest. Avoid renting a car if you're staying in the historic area — parking is nearly nonexistent.
